#InTheNews: New Volcano Alert Issued By Iceland

share on:

An aviation warning level has been raised by Iceland after a fresh eruption from a fissure near the Barbabunga volcano.

The eruption has been described by Iceland’s Met office as “a very calm lava eruption which could hardly be seen on seismometers”.  Due to the warnings, planes will be banned from flying in the area around the volcano peak.

The volcano erupted in 2010, and in the process produced ash that disrupted air travel across Europe.
