Nigeria’s Folashade Abugan brought the country yet another gold medal at the ongoing African Athletics Championship as she won the top prize in the 400m event.
Speaking after crossing the finish line first, Abugan, 23, said she was delighted to win after coming third four years ago.
“ I am so happy to win because four years ago I won a bronze medal but this time around, I am the African champion. This season has been a great one for me as I became national champion, won a bronze at the IAAF World Relays and silver at the Commonwealth Games. I am going to train harder ahead of the Continental Cup”, she said.
Abugan’s win was an electric one, as she finished on the same time with second-placed Zambian, Kabange Mupopo in 51.21 seconds, but won because she dipped earlier.
