A nurse at First Consultants Hospital in Lagos, who came in contact with Nigeria’s index Ebola victim Patrick Saywer escaped the isolation unit where she was being quarantined after she became infected with the deadly virus. Rather than continue with her treatment at the isolation unit she fled to her hometown in Enugu state, where she was in contact with 20 other people including her family.
The Minister of Information Labaran Maku, who spoke at a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting told the council that the nurse and the 20 people she was in contact with were under surveillance in Enugu.
The nurse has been brought back to the isolation ward in Lagos. According to the Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi the newly wedded nurse who had escaped quarantine has been returned to Lagos with her husband in a special traveling ambulance. They are both in quarantine. The nurse wasn’t showing symptoms when she fled quarantine.
