Over the last four years, Arsene Wenger has slowly and systematically built a world class team that is capable of challenging for and winning the league title. Wenger’s Arsenal side currently boasts of 3 world cup winners in Podolski, Mertesacker and Ozil and a European championships Winner in Carzola. But more than that, Arsenal has a unique blend of players who have come into the league as youngsters and have developed into quality players and world class players from around Europe and South America to create a mix up of that English intesnsity and that flair that is generally missing in the English game. In defense, Arsenal have Koscielny and Mertesacker, two very good defenders who may not exactly be world class but they complement each other so well. After playing together for about three years, these two have developed an understanding and are currently the best central defensive pairing in England, they are almost as good as the Ferdinand-Vidic pairing of 2007 to 2010. In midfield, Arsenal boasts more quality players in numbers than any team playing in England. With the tough tackling Flamini always willing to sit deep and break up attacks, Ramsey a modern day box to box midfielder with goals and creativity added to his bag of talents, Arteta, an intelligent deep lying playmaker who knows the English game in and out and Advanced playmakers like Wilshere, whose ability on the ball is quite astonishing, his turn of pace, passing and positioning are quite impressive, Carzola, a Spanish international who can pass the ball and is not afraid to shoot and has that ability to change games and Ozil, the man whose name is synonymous with assists, a player that can create something out of nothing and can pass the ball like no other. Out wide, Arsenal have the most direct and pacey players who have a mature edge to their game now in Walcott, Oxelade Chamberlain and Podolski. And in the center of attack there is Giroud with his excellent position with two years’ experience in the Premier league and then Alexis Sanchez who, save for his aerial deficiencies is one of the most complete players around, with pace, trickery, positioning, good passing range and finishing all bundled in one. New signing Debuchy is exactly the kind of full back any team needs, string, willing to do his defensive duties and do them well and more than capable of getting down his flank and putting in good crosses enabling the wingers to cut in and cause problems in the opposition eighteen yard area and Gibbs is exactly the same.
Arsenal have struggled for consistency in recent seasons but for the first time, they seem to have a championship challenge worthy side with Walcott, Wilshere and Chamberlain coming of age, and the team finally gelling well and ready to play more games and the defense working well as a unit and Alexis ready to provide the goals where Giroud can’t. Arsenal just need one more midfield marshal who can move with the ball, win the ball, join in attack, organize the midfield and has experience in big matches on the biggest stage. In other words, Arsenal need Khedira to transform them beyond comprehension.
Right now, Arsenal are ready to challenge for the title, signing Khedira might just see them win the title.
