Thibaut Courtois has deleted any reference to Atletico Madrid on his Twitter bio and added ‘Goalkeeper of Chelsea’.
In a world where social media thrives like never before, a fact is never a fact until the subject of that fact tweets about it.
Of course that is a playful way of looking at things, but in an age of instant information, footballers can convey headline news with little more than a status-change or by updating their bio.
And such was the case when Thibaut Courtois became a Chelsea goalkeeper – at least according to his Twitter account.
It has been obvious for some time that the Belgium international would be returning to Stamford Bridge next season; not least when the 22-year-old bid farewell to the fans of Atletico Madrid, the club at which he has blossomed over the last three years.
But now it seems there can be no question where Courtois will be playing next season, and that is not good news for Petr Cech.
The two men will now have to fight it out for the number one position between the Chelsea posts, which could see a battle every bit as intriguing as the ones set to take place on the pitch in the coming campaign.
