Following the 2002 world cup, where Ronaldo De Lima Scored 8 goals and looked a sure bet to be named world player of the year, Real Madrid made an offer Internationzle Milan and Ronaldo simply couldn’t resist and Ronaldo was a part of the Los Galacticos. Since then, Real Madrid have kept up a love relationship with standout performers at the world cup.
In 2006 after the world cup in Germany, one man stood out amongst the rest. He was a diminutive defender with the heart of a lion, his name is Fabio Cannavaro. He joined Real Madrid from Juventus and would later be named world player of the year.
In 2010, two players stood out and caught the eye of the world, one with creativity and technical know-how and the other with his timing of the challenge and his movement in midfield. Both players were young and promised to be the future of world football they were Ozil and Khadira. That summer, they joined Real Madrid.
Four years on and Real Madrid have returned to sign one of Germany’s brightest stars at the world cup, the man who pulled the strings and scored two goals in the 7-1 demolition of Brazil, the man who added pace drive and incisiveness to the German midfield and the man to take the void set to be left by Schweinsteiger as he did from Ballack, Toni Kroos.
It is clear that Real Madrid like to get the world cup stars. Those stars however haven’t been the most influential players in Madrid’s success with Cannavaro not living up to expectations and returning to Juve and Ozil also seen as surplus to requirements and moved on to Arsenal, both after four years. It is their world record signings Zidane and Ronaldo and Bale that have been very instrumental to the success of Real Madrid. Ronaldo also moved on after he couldn’t keep up with Van Nistelrooy and Raul and Owen.
Will Toni Kroos fulfill his potential as a Galactico or will he like Kaka become a wash out?
