The Cote D’Ivoire football federation as appointed Frenchman Herve Renard as the new team head coach. Renard replaces Sabri Laouchi who stepped down as head coach following a disappointing world cup campaign that saw the Elephants narrowly miss out on the knock out stage.
Renard was approved by the vetting committee who were impressed by the coaches national team experience in Africa.
“The new coach would help guide the team which will enter into a transition period very soon. We will use the AFCONs n 2015 and 2017 to outfit and raise a new generation of players” said Sidy Diallo, the football federation’s chairman.
Renard who lead Zambia to AFCON success in 2012 before leaving to manage Sochaux in the Ligue 1 has been handed a two year contract.
Renard’s first task would be to qualify the team for the AFCON in Morocco in January.
