Chelsea’s bid to improve their midfield options has now resulted in a reported £7m offer for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot .
Chelsea have already wrapped up the signing of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, clinching the former Arsenal captain for around £30m. The Spaniard has the necessary goalscoring ability from midfield to replace the outgoing Frank Lampard, but manager Jose Mourinho is seemingly still intent on bringing another midfielder to the club.
Both John Obi Mikel and Ramires have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this summer, and if even one of them does depart, then Mourinho will need to add depth to his midfield ranks, with only Nemanja Matic and Marco van Ginkel to call upon outside of Fabregas, Mikel and Ramires.
They will have high hopes for 21-year-old van Ginkel, who will have fully recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in September against Swindon Town, but even so, Mourinho should be looking to a midfielder – particularly after David Luiz, who filled in at times, was sold to Paris Saint-Germain.
And it’s the French giants who could give something back to Chelsea this summer, if Mourinho gets his way – as he often does.
Chelsea have been linked with a move to sign midfielder Adrien Rabiot from PSG for some time now, but speculation today suggests that the club have now made a £7 Million bid to price away Rabiot from the French capital after a season where he emerged in midfield despite the likes of Thiago Motta, Blaise Matuidi, Yohan Cabaye and Marco Verratti for competition.
Rabiot has recently turned down a new contract at the Parc des Princes, and with fellow French youngster Kurt Zouma already at Stamford Bridge, he could well be tempted into a move to West London. A deep-lying playmaker with exceptional passing, Rabiot’s ability would certainly be welcomed at Chelsea, even if he would be seen as one for the future.
