James Rodriguez brilliance wasn’t enough to see Colombia past Brazil as two goals from the Hosts’ center backs Thiago Silva and David Luiz were enough for Brazil to knock out Colombia despite James’ late penalty.

Brazil started the livelier of the two teams and when the Brazilians won a corner on the right flank in the 7th minute and Neymar floated the cross in, Silva was on hand to bundle the ball in with his thighs to give Brazil the lead. Brazil dominated the first half with Hulk barreling down the left for Brazil more often than not. The Brazilians created chances but Ospina was fantastic in the Colombian goal. In the second half, Colombia controlled possession but struggled to create chances and in the 69th minute when Brazil won a free kick, David Luiz stepped up to knock in a beauty from 35 yards. James Rodrigues scored a penalty in the 80th minutes after Julio Ceaser brought down the Monaco man when he was through on goal in the box. Brazil were able to hold on to book a place in the semi finals.

Brazil will take on Germany in the semi final on Tuesday.
