Mats Hummels 13th minute strike was enough to see Germany past a resilient and spirited French side that boasted quality in attack and through to the semi finals of the world cup for a record 13th time and for the fourth consecutive time.
Both teams started out intending to attack, but it was France who began the match the better of the two sides.During the early spell of dominance by the French, Paul Pogba’s foul led to a free kick which was delivered in by Toni Kroos and Hummels out jumped Varane at the back post to power home a header and give Germany the lead. Both teams struggled to create chances at both defenses were immense all match long. Despite throwing on strikers with all their three substitutions, the French couldn;t find a way past Boateng Hummels and Neuer.
Die Mannschaft will now take on the winner between Brazil and Colombia in what promises to be an explosive encounter.
