Arsenal target and Ivorian Youngster Joins Paris Saint-Germain giving Carl Jenkinson hope

Ivory Coast defender Serge Aurier has completed a one-year loan move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, despite interest from both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Express report that Aurier’s move means the Gunners will reject any move from Newcastle United or West Ham United for Carl Jenkinson.

Jenkinson had been linked with a move after the arrival of Mathieu Debuchy, but although Arsenal are believed to be eyeing other right-backs such as Calum Chambers and Gino Peruzzi, the Express believe the Englishman will be staying put.

Missing out on Aurier is a blow to Arsene Wenger, as the 21-year-old was one of the Ivory Coast’s few impressive performers at the World Cup, setting up both goals in the Elephants’ 2-1 win over Japan.

Despite his young age he has already made over 100 Ligue 1 appearances for Toulouse and Lens.

Jenkinson has played most of his football at right-back but can also cover on the left, and some believe he may end up as a centre-back, meaning he could prove to be a useful utility player for Wenger in the coming season.
