It is not how long you live on earth that matters but the impact you made while living.
Prof. (Mrs.) Dora Nkem Akunyili, former Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and former minister of Information lived an examplary and a life worthy of emulation.
The news of Her death came as a surprise to me. I felt the pain so much because Prof. Akunyili has served our country in numerous strategic positions.
Before Prof. Akunyili was appointed Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Nigeria all manner of adulterated, fake and substandard food and drugs were circulated in Nigeria, some people made fortunes from it. When she assumed office as the New NAFDAC boss, she came in with change to NAFDAC and also to Nigeria thereby reducing the level of fake drugs in the country.
As a woman that loved to be indispensable wherever she went, she championed the Re-branding Nigeria Project driven by the slogan, Nigeria: Good People, Great Nation as the Honourable Minister of Information and Communications, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Till date Dr. Hajia HADIZA LADI DOSEI KWALI, MBE, D.Litt (ABU) Nigeria’s most famous potter (or ceramist in modern parlance) is the only woman to grace any Nigerian note (N20). I therefore use this medium to call on the federal Government of Nigeria to write Prof. Akunyili’s name on the indelible sands of time.
