Mexico 1 – Cameroon 0 #Brasil2014

A lone strike by Oribe Peralta was enough to see Mexico past the Indomitable lions as it rained down on Arena das Dunas just a few minutes ago.

Mexico would be delighted to have secured all three points against Cameroon after some abysmal refereeing had denied them of two goals in the first half. Both teams had worked very hard in midfield but the Mexicans consistently broke past the Cameroonians’ offside trap and should have been ahead when Dos Santos poked in Marques cross and again when a corner came of a Cameroonian defender and Dos Santos headed home from four yards. Both goals were ruled as offside. In the 61st minute however, when Dos Santos broke free again and his shot was parried by Itandje, Peralta was on hand to knock the finish home past a hapless Itandje. The Mexican defence stayed strong to deny a late Cameroonian onslaught and should have gone two up but Hernandez (not quite the super sub) missed a sitter in the 92nd minute.
