England ended their World Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw against surprise Group D winners Costa Rica
Costa Rica were the faster out of the two at the beginning and went close when Celso Borge’s free-kick was tipped on to the bar brilliantly by Ben Foster. England tried to penetrate and get through the Costa Rican defence, but found little luck.
The same style of play carried on through the rest of the first half and was not the most entertaining of displays.
After the second half England seemed to pick up the pace a little and went agonisingly close when Daniel Sturridge curled his shot inches wide of the post.
Substitute’s Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney made a slight impact with their arrivals to the game, with the latter forcing a good save from Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas with a clever chipped attempt.
Neither side really looked like scoring and a draw was a fair result. England take away at least one point from a dreadful campaign, while Costa Rica will be buzzing as Group D winners.
