Italy’s Ricardo Montolivo will play no part in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after breaking his leg in the match against Ireland.

A tackle from Ireland defender Alex Pearce left him shaken up, and an x-ray revealed a broken tibia.

Azurri coach Caeser Prandelli hasn’t named his final 23 for the mundial, and he might also be without Fiorentina’s Alberto Aquilani, who was also forced off due to injury.

Italy’s first game of the World Cup is against England on the 14th of June.
