How Africa has fared so far #Brasil2014

share on:

So far in Brazil, Africa has endured a torrid time in the tournament with our single victory coming from Ivory Coast’s win over Japan a draw and three defeats have ensured that the chances of an African country going the distance in Brazil are slim

Cameroon were the first of the five to be involved in a match and after a one 1nil loss to Mexico in a match were they never looked organized in midfield, their attack never got going and their defense weren’t in sync and couldn’t hold a line for the offside trap, they now face very stern tests against Croatia and then Brazil. Croatia will be looking to pip Cameroon to keep their world cup hopes alive and Brazil well…they would be looking to give the fans another show

Ivory Coast looked very good in their opening match after beating Japan by a late strike the Ivoirians will be guilty of relaxing and allowing the Japanese too much time on the ball on some occasions but their midfield was immense with some excellent passing and Wilfred Bony showed just how dependable he can be in attack with Colombia and Greece as the other opponents in their group, Ivory Coast may very well fancy their chances of finishing top of group C

Nigeria left their fans frustrated after controlling possession for most of the match but they lacked the decisiveness and creativity in the final third to unlock the Iranian defense and when they did, their finishing was abysmal to put it lightly. They settled for a point following a goalless draw with Iran and will have to be at their scintillating best if they are to get anything from their remaining two matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Argentina.

Ghana paid the price for their profligacy in front of goal as despite opening up the United States on various occasions they could only manage one goal, U.S.A. on the other hand took their chances and ran out 2-1 winners on the night. The Ghanaians now have the herculean task of getting favorable results against a Hungry and desperate Portuguese side and pre-tournament favorites Germany.

Algeria scored their first world cup goal in 28 years but they never really offered much going forward against a hungry Belgium side and ended the night 2-1 losers and could have no complaints about the score line.

Games: 5 Won: 1 Drawn: 1 Lost: 3 Goals scored: 4 Goals conceded: 6 Goal difference: -2
