#Brazil2014: Suarez, Uruguay Bite Way Into Knockout Stages

share on:

The 2014 World Cup claimed yet another major scalp as 2006 winners Italy exited the group stage for the second tournament running.

The Azurri needed a draw against Uruguay to qualify for the Round of 16, but failed to hang on to a 0-0 scoreline after Claudio Marchisio was sent off after an hour.

There was controversy as Chiellini claimed to be bitten by Suarez, but in the end it was Atletico Madrid defender and captain Diego Godin who nodded home to send Italy packing.

The goal clinched second spot in the group for Uruguay, behind surprise-first placed Costa Rica.
