So far it has been a remarkable tournament for South America and an exciting tournament in Brazil. By 5 pm today, that excitement will explode on the field as Brazil, one of the bookmakers’ favorites take on Chile, one of the pundits’ favorites.

For Brazil, this is not business as usual, they face their toughest test yet in a Chile side that is the best counter attacking unit in the world and possibly the hardest working midfield in Brazil. The Selecao must rely on the fluidity of Oscar and the ability of Fred to pick out chances, Neymar’s running might be a problem for Brazil today as the Chileans are good at closing down spaces and too much time on the ball might just not be what Brazil need. Chile are rarely out of defensive shape therefore, Brazil have to remain patient in attack. Luiz Guztavo’s lack of pace could be exposed if he wonders to far forward as Vidal, and Quintero have the pace to out run even Usain Bolt. Marcelo and Dani Alves must be wary of the Chilean wing backs going forward and While Alexis Sanchez pops up in various areas of the pitch, David Luiz and Silva will do well to pick up Eduardo Vargas, who has a knack for being in the goal scoring positions more often than not.

For Chile, they have to work hard to contain Neymar and Oscar and if he is fit, Hulk three players behind the striker who can switch positions at will. man marking is not the answer, staying in shape will be. Fred poses a big threat in the air and the back three of Chile must watch out for him. Paulinho generally joins in the attack alongside Alves and Marcelo. while this will spell trouble for Vidal, Isla and Carmona  it could be good news for Chile as if the Brazilians lose the ball, they are generally out of defensive shape and the speed of the Chilean counter will make you think flash is a snail.

This is going to be one of the most memorable matches of this world cup and it could just be the match that produces the eventual winners of the tournament.
