‘Beauty And The Beast’: Disney Set To Make Live-Action Version

Beauty and the Beast is coming right back to your screen but only better because it’s going to be live-action

American scriptwriter and director, Bill Condon has been hired by Disney to direct the fairy tale film. Evan Spiliotopoulos will write the script, and Mandeville Films will produce the movie. There is no news yet on the cast for Beauty and the Beast.

The animated feature which was released in 1991 earned a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards and was adapted into a Broadway musical in 1994. It has grossed more than $375 million worldwide.

The news came after Maleficent debuted at No. 1, raking in $170 million at the global box office. Disney is also working on two other live-action versions of classic animated films:Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh, and The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau.  Linda Woolverton wrote the scripts for both Maleficent and Beauty and the Beast.
