Thailand: Court Dismisses First Female PM; Asked To Step Down

share on:

Thailand’s constitutional court, on wednesday, ordered the resignation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra six months after a violent demonstration ensued, making it the third time the court has removed an elected Thai leader with ties to former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, brother to Yingluck, who was expelled from power following a 2006 coup.

He is being accused of using Yingluck as his political proxy while being in exile in Dubai.

A new vote is expected in late July – one that would in all likelihood return a government made up of Thaksin allies
