Ade Laoye of EL Now recently interviewed “Double Wahala” singer, Oritse Femi and he divulged all to her – his music, background and rise to fame on Ebonylife TV’s celebrity news show EL Now. Femi shared how he rose from rags to riches.
Born and brought up in Ajegunle, with thirty-something other siblings, the native of Itsekiri had a difficult life growing up. But this didn’t impede on his dreams, as his struggles only pushed him to seek for a better life.
He worked hard, singing with friends in a band and in church. Highly talented, he became the lead vocalist at some point and could even play all the instruments.
“I knack drum well-well,” he says.
His inspiration, he adds, is a culmination of his reality, his experiences and his struggles. The late king of Afrobeat, Fela Anikulapo Kuti was also a huge source of inspiration to him and stood as a dad figure at some point in his life.
He says Fela taught him to “continue to do what you know how to do best. One day people will celebrate you.”
