A fire outbreak yesterday destroyed goods worth millions of naira at a Low Cost Housing Estate Market Oke-Afa, in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos. Though no lives lost, the fire which was purported to have been caused by power upsurge, razed down over 30 shops.
According to reports, the damage would have been worse, if a passerby hadn’t raised an alarm after noticing unusual fumes coming out of from the market.
Although the youths in the area battled to contain the flames, before the arrival of water trucks from the fire station, the fire escalated due to the power generating sets kept in one of the shops. Some unfortunate shop owners watched as their means of livelihood went up in flames.
