Yekini Arowolo, was on Tuesday brought before an Itire Magistrate’s Court in Lagos over his inability to produce an accused as a surety.
The 51 year old is to face two counts of conspiracy and an attempt to pervert the cause of justice, in which he pleaded not guilty to.
The prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, explained to the court that Arowolo agreed to produce the accused, Ademola Adeleke who was arrested for a theft case, which he stood surety for and has refused to do so.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that any person who conspires with another to obstruct, prevent, pervert or defeat the course of justice is guilty of felony and is liable to imprisonment of seven years. The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 409 and 97 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
