It was reported last night that one of the abducted girls amongst the over two hundred, had escaped captivity, following Former President Olusegun Obasanjo meeting with people close to the sect to negotiate the release of the remaining girls.
According to The Cable, the National Chairman of Kibaku Area Development Association, Dr. Pogu Bitrus, confirmed that the girl had escaped, but refused to reveal identity, saying it could endanger her life. HE went ahead to claim that four had indeed escaped last week but were kept on the low from media for fear of their safety.
Adding that the talks was only to explore an option, the former president expressed that as an African father, a Nigerian father or grandfather, it could have been him in the situation with a daughter or granddaughter of his abducted. Further expelling his reasons for reaching out to attain the release of the chibok girls.
The meeting between the two parties which took place last weekend at Obasanjo’s farm in Ogun State, saw present at the meeting relatives of some senior Boko Haram fighters as well as intermediaries and the former president.
This won’t be the first time Obasanjo would make an attempt at negotiating with the insurgents. He had previously sought to banter with the insurgents following the insurgents bombing of the UN headquarters in Abuja 9/11.
