Atletico Madrid fought against the odds at Camp Nou on Saturday to become the first team to win the Spanish La Liga since 2004 that wasn’t Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid headed to Camp Nou knowing a loss would give Barcelona the crown, and 28-year old defender Diego Godin made sure that didn’t happen with a magnificent header to ensure a draw.
It’s Atletico Madrid’s first league trophy since the 1995/1996 season.
Atletico Madrid can’t celebrate fully yet, as they still have a mouth-watering Champions League final against Real Madrid next Saturday.
The draw also ensured that Barcelona would end the season trophyless, leading to manager Gerardo Martino’s resignation.
