American Writer Maya Angelou Dies At 86

Popular African-American writer Maya Angelou has died at the age of 86.

According to a statement by the family, Angelou died quietly in her home.

“She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love,” the statement read.

Celebrities and literary figures and politicians round the world have mourned the I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings writer, who has been a gift to the world
