2Face, D’banj, Tiwa Savage & All Other Nigerian Artistes: Is Nigeria Not Good Enough For You?

This post isn’t as damning as the headline made it seem. You know, sensationalist stuffs and nkan be be. Or is it?

Some days back I across a news story saying D’banj was “launching” his newest single, Bother You in London. And I’m like, what? Why would you launch a single in London? Is London where your primary audience is?

Then I realized, why do Nigerian artistes like to take their matters outside Nigeria?

It actually started with music videos. I think the unwritten code back then was you weren’t shit in the industry if you didn’t have a music video shot in South Africa. Everyone was running to shoot videos in South Africa like they were doing video promo in South Africa or the video vixens in South Africa were prettier than Nigerian girls (which is so not true).

Sean Tizzle recently took his entire team to shoot videos for his debut album in SA, and Phyno and the P-Square duo are even there as I write this shooting the video for O’Set.

From Wande Coal to Orezi to D’banj, almost all our top acts have videos in South Africa. So out of curiosity, I’m asking. is Nigeria not good enough for shooting music videos?

Trend number 2 is still budding, but you have my word that in the next 3 years, we’d have at least 5 more celebrity weddings in Dubai. Till then.

And with the way Nigerian artistes like to do copy-copy, you can expect some people to start follow Uncle Koko’s footsteps and start doing single and album launch in Obodoyibo.

And before you can see Dorobucci, they will start traveling to London to record the songs.

Nigerian celebrities (especially the singers) are very petty people and I fully expect some to read this and say “na because e no get money go there” or “broke people don’t have an opinion,” or some other retarded something.

All I’m saying is it don’t really make sense to make money from Nigerians and go and spend it abroad.

Whatever is in those places that is not in Nigeria, all of you have your telecoms money and can do a bit to put it in Nigeria. Let Nigerians remember you for something more than sub-par lyrics.
