On March 22, 2014, UN World Water Day, FACE Africa held its 5th Annual WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Gala in New York City at Chelsea Piers. The event which was attended by over 300 guests, was hosted by Nigerian actress Ebbe Bassey and raised close to USD $250,000, all of which will go towards building clean water projects in Rivercess County, Liberia and provide 12,000 people with clean water.
FACE Africa’s mission is to bring safe drinking water to some of the 350 million people across sub-Saharan Africa who lack access to this basic necessity. Founded by Saran Kaba Jones, a clean water advocate and social entreprene
ur from Liberia, in 2009, the organization plans to expand its operations to more countries including Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria over the next year.
In 2013, Saran was listed by the Guardian UK as one of Africa’s 25 Top Women Achievers alongside President Joyce Banda of Malawi and Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee who attended the event. She was also named a 2013 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.

The FACE Africa award recognised the Foundation as a driving force of business and philanthropic leadership in Africa. FACE Africa understands that unsafe water inhibits economic growth. Clean water supply is a basic infrastructure for an enabling business environment. Thank you to FACE Africa & other Liberian entrepreneurs for their support & continued work. And for honouring TEF.”
