Michael Phelps’ return to the pool had been widely celebrated, but longtime rival Ryan Lochte is having none of it.
Lochte made sure Phelps had to settle for 2nd place at the Arena Grand Prix 100m butterfly, beating the Olympic legend’s 52.13 seconds with his 51.93.
“I’m my hardest critic, so I know what I can do there,” Phelps said after the loss.
“But, like I’ve been saying this whole time, I’m having fun. I really do mean that. There’s nothing like being able to come here, swimming in front of packed stands.”
