There was uproar in Abeokuta, Ogun state today after some youths discovered a baby factory around Vulcaniser Bus stop. This incident is happening barely two weeks after eight women were rescued from a baby factory in the Akute area of the same state.
Eyewitnesses said that the youths initially thought it was a ritual den hence their reason for forcefully breaking in and in the fit of rage, set two vehicles ablaze as well as one storey building. An official who witnessed this sad event said that the youths were able to recover a blood filled basin, coffin, mortar, calabash, clothes, live scorpion, assorted charms and other fetish items. Residents in the area said that the building was let out to an unidentified individual.
Trouble began when a pregnant woman escaped from the building and ran into a nearby building, crying and wailing for the residents to save her from her assailants. The woman claimed to be from Abia state and that her elder sister sold her to the people for N100,000. The matter was reported at the Adigbe Police Division and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
After the police searched the building, three other pregnant women and five kids were rescued. Around 8am, residents heard of the incident and the youths took the law into their hands by setting fire to the place, but the police men stopped them from causing more damage. They refused to leave until the police used tear-gas canisters to send them off.
The command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said two suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident. He said one Muibat Yusuf and her brother who are both indigenes of Kwara State had been arrested. It was learnt that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran.
