Samuel L. Jackson lay heavily into KTLA anchor Sam Rubin after he mistook him for Laurence Fishburne on live TV.
During the live interview segment Rubin enthusiastically asked Jackson what kind of reaction he had received after his Super Bowl commercial. Jackson’s response: “What Super Bowl commercial?” was followed by an awkward silence as Rubin’s faux pas sank in.
The seasoned reporter tried to brush it off and move on to the next question, but Jackson was not willing to let him off that easily, jabbing his finger at the camera and scolding: “I am not Laurence Fishburne!”
The Snakes on a Plane actor, clearly exasperated at being confused with a completely different Hollywood star, kept Rubin squirming as he sarcastically pointed out: “We may be black and famous, but we all don’t look alike,” followed by an incredulous: “You’re the entertainment reporter for this station?”
A flustered Rubin finally managed to steer the interview back towards its intended topic – Jackson’s latest film RoboCop – but Jackson couldn’t resist offering some parting advice for Rubin, should he get to interview the rest of the RoboCop cast: “Do some research. Make sure you don’t confuse them with those other white actors that are out there.”
