Emotional day in Venezuela – Friends, family and fans gathered to say their final goodbyes to former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear and ex-husband Thomas Henry Berry during an emotional funeral service on January 10, 2014.
The funeral took place in the capital city – Caracas, Venezuela, just days after they were brutally slain in a roadside attack outside the capital city.
According to NBC, Spear, Berry and their child had stopped on Puerto Cabello-Valencia Road after they got 2 flat tyres late Monday – January 6, 2014. Police said robbers attacked the couple and their daughter, who were on vacation in Venezuela, in their car. The robbers opened fire on the family locked inside the grey 2002 Corolla Toyota, killing the parents and injuring the child. The pair’s 5-year-old daughter, Maya survived the attack with a gunshot wound to the leg, but i t’s unclear if she attended the funeral.
Monica Spear was crowned Miss Venezuela in 2004 and competed in the Miss Universe 2005 pageant in Thailand, where she was fourth runner-up. She’s also starred in several Venezuelan telenovelas and U.S. soap operas including Telemundo’s “Flor Salvaje” in 2011 and, most recently, “Pasión Prohibida” in 2013.
Monica’s brother, Ricardo Spear Mootz, headed the procession, carrying his beloved sister’s body to her final resting place. Ricardo and many of the other pallbearers were dressed casually in jeans and khakis as they soberly held Monica’s coffin.
Fans and loved ones carried flowers and leaned on each other for support as they shed tears for Monica and Thomas.
