24 November 2008.
Guys, hear me out first before you start throwing stones. I don’t have anything against Dapo AKA D’banj neither do I have anything against Mo Hits Records. As a matter of fact, D’banj and Mo hits Records have done so much for the Nigeria entertainment industry.
Since 2005 till date, they‘ve made sure that we have no dull moments in our Clubs, homes, schools, churches(
Okay I have to admit that the guy has a way of following me around. Two weeks back I traveled to Onitsha for a traditional wedding and the driver of the “Ekene Dili Chukwu” bus played only D’banj’s songs from Lagos to Upper Iweka. He played from his first album “No long Thing” to the last “The Entertainer “that I had to ask him if he was related to Don jazzy to which he said “we only share the same name ‘Michael” and fetch water from the same stream in our village.(Imagine Don Jazzy with a bucket of water on his head ,a blue wrapper on his waist and his walking stick)
On getting to the Uga Street, the venue of the traditional wedding, The Dj (Dj Oso ndi, owe ndi” was repeating “Igwe” like it was the Nigeria National Anthem (or was it because of my presence? I mean, I’m Noble Igwe!) Sue me
Anyways, I went through that punishment for one good reason, He’s a good musician who will be around for a long while -and I know his cousin. I like his music but his recent involvement with older women is something that I cannot stand. I mean he goes about boasting on how he’s got chics all the way from “London to Johannesburg, from Johannesburg to Unilag”.he even went further to say that “some of them are local while some are flown in”.Why?who want to know? Is he aware that I can also fly a chic in? I once flew a chic on Okada from Maryland to my office in GRA Ikeja.big deal!
I’m not angry with the fact that he’s doing all these rubbish or into older women but not after being on the same stage with Kelly Rowland.Ah ah.Yes, D’banj performed with Kelly Rowland at the just concluded MTV Africa Music Awards and they had the best performance of the night….you can ask The Game.
The duet was so tight and on point that it brought tears to the eyes of the girl sitting beside me at the event. In her words “This is the best moment of my life. My two most favorite artistes on the same stage in my homeland, in my life time”
I thought the only time people were allowed to cry in public was when Obama won. Just as I was about to tell her to stop, she leaned on me suffice it to say here that I didn’t remember the rest of the event.
I agree that he’s a wonderful performer and all that but why is he into MAMAs? Why did he have to take home two pretty MAMAs?Why did he have to do music so sweet that young girls use his image as their screen saver and older MAMAs follow him home? Why????????Why?????
I’m writing this note out of envy and nothing else. I wish I was the one that took home the MAMAs.i wish I was the one on stage with Kelly Rowland. I wish I went home with “Artiste of the year” and ‘Best Male”. I wish I was his cousin, house mate or even neighbor. (Or does staying in Lagos make me his neighbor?)
D’banj was the only artiste that took home two awards at the first ever MTV Africa Music Awards. He’s won Artiste of the year back to back.
Congrats D’banj and Mo Hits Records. Please take care of the MAMAs.from what I heard; they say old wine is tastier with age…
Now that you’ve got the MAMAlets, can we have the kokolets? You know………just for a while.
