Over 1 million people have signed an online petition after 3 men who raped a teenager in Kenya were ordered to cut grass as punishment.

The 16-year-old victim, known by the pseudonym Liz, was attacked and raped as she was returning from her grandfather’s funeral, France24.com reported. She was left bleeding and unconscious in a sewage ditch.

According to the report, she suffered serious internal injuries and is now wheelchair-bound with a broken back.

The number of people who signed the petition, started by Kenya women’s rights group member Nebila Abdulmelik, passed the one million mark on Monday.

Lawmakers have condemned the attack and authorities’ failure to properly punish the men, France24.com reported.

Kenya police chief David Kimaiyo said that “investigations are complete,” and that the force was awaiting instructions from the office of the director of public prosecution.
