I was woken up this morning by the sounds of sirens every five minutes and a phone call from my mother to watch the news because JOMO KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT was on fire. The horror!!!
There have been no casualties reported so far, just millions and millions in businesses and airport property destroyed. The airport is officially closed, there are no flights coming in or going out of Nairobi for now, all flights have been redirected to nearby regional airports. All passengers are safe so far and fire has been contained. It is a sad morning in Nairobi.
This is not a recent jinx as well, it dates back to August 1982 when Kenyans woke up to the sounds of Gunfire throughout Nairobi as a group of Kenya airforce soldiers ceased fire in a coup attempt.
The most dreadful was 7th August 1998 when an innocent looking truck drove up to the then US embassy with explosives and we lost the lives of over 200 people and countless were injured. It is very sad to even think that the 8th month of the year in Kenya is indeed cursed. Let us all pray and ask God to safeguard us for the rest of this month.
