Thousands of mourners, including these traditional Igbo chiefs, have been attending the funeral of renowned Nigerian author Chinua Achebe in his home town of Ogidi in Anambra state.
The casket carrying Mr Achebe’s remains was carried to St Phillips Anglican Church in the town. He died in March in the US at the age of 82
Mr Achebe’s widow, Christie, listens as her son Ikechukwu speaks at the ceremony.
Mr Achebe is widely regarded as the founding father of African literature in English.
President Goodluck Jonathan was also among those attending, although correspondents say political patronage and the trappings of power were anathema to the author.
A vendor was on hand to sell copies of Mr Achebe’s last book.
Traditional chiefs had also gathered a day earlier in Awka for an event celebrating the author’s life.
