Pun Star‘s Street Dreams EP is an expression of some of the experiences garnered and how they shaped him.
The good, the bad, the rough and the smooth. It shows a glimpse of the dreams he has and also the yearning of most in the streets to rise above and into stardom.
The first single from Pun Star’s Street Dreams EP is titled “Who dey mozz”. It is an expression of lyrical dexterity and versatility. Weaving in between styles, from wordplay to stylistics. The last verse tells a story of university experience as it happened in UNIBEN. EK City stand up!
The second track is titled “Koleye won” (They will not understand) and it features the attitudinal Yoruba singer Skin, who renders a powerful chorus. He delivers parables saying things like “the way that water enters into the coconut can never be fathomed”.
Then there is “Real Raps”,which is quite different from the regular rap flavour Nigerians are used to. Real true hiphop. Its reminiscent of Mobb Deep’s “Get away”.
“No be Chinko” and “Never say hi” are chick flicks in which he paints pictures of his emotions to a particular lady.
“N.S.A Soldier” is a pop song where he reps his crew Nasty Sounds Academy through catchy delivery and feel good melody.
The tracks were produced by upcoming producer PITCH who has also worked with Ese Peters, DAMAGE and Shuga V.
Not a bad entry into this grimy business. Won’t beat Drake in the near future though but mosdef better than a lot of Nigerian rappers on rotation.
