Taylor Swift made headlines on Tuesday when she hit back at Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for making jokes at her expense at this year’s Golden Globes awards.
But now comic and talk show host Chelsea Handler has weighed into the row with a theory on why the country star has dated ‘so many men’ and doesn’t appear to have long term relationships.
Speaking on the Watch What Happens Live show with Andy Cohen, Chelsea joked: ‘My theory about Taylor Swift is that she’s a virgin, that everyone breaks up with her because they date her for two weeks and she’s like, “I’m not gonna do it.”
‘And they’re like, “Oh, well, forget it. Then I don’t want to date you,”‘ she imagined.
‘Every guy thinks they’re going to de-virginise her, and they’re not. She’s never going to get de-virginised, ever, ever, ever, ever,’ she added.
Swift has taken offence at Fey and Poehler for mocking her love life during the prestigious awards show.
In an interview with the April issue of Vanity Fair, Swift recited a quote Katie Couric once shared with her when asked how she deals with “mean girls” in Hollywood: ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’
Handler, who is friends with Couric, called Swift’s comments ‘a bold statement’, before adding: ‘I like that she’s being that vociferous about something that she thinks they were out to get her.
‘They were clearly making a joke just about her demeanour, which is embarrassing. I mean, she’s just dated so many men.
‘I’m not on anyone’s side because I just don’t care enough.’
Swift is said to have dated a string of famous men including Conor Kennedy, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer, Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner.
She is now single after splitting with One Direction singer Harry Styles in January.
