Nasarawa State University Shut Down After 4 Students Are Killed During Protests

share on:

The Nasarawa State University has been shut down indefinitely following the murder of 4 students during a protest around the school’s vicinity.

The students were reportedly protesting over the scarcity of water and power on the campus for several days. The students of the institution were said to have blocked the Abuja/Keffi road during the protest.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the Nasarawa State Police Command, Michael Ada confirmed the killing of the students and told Punch that seven others received gunshot injuries. About 17 other students were arrested by security agents, including the institution’s President of the Students Union.

During the protests, policemen and soldiers were dispatched to the area to restore normalcy. However, both the Police and Soliders are denying their involvement in the killing of the students.

Ada told Punch that the Police were not involved in the shootings and that they only cleared the highway blocked by the protesting students. He said that any question relating to the incident should be directed to the Army.

Similarly denying their involvement, the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, denied the claim that soldiers did the shooting. He told Punch that soldiers were on patrol duty during the demonstration at Keffi but did not have any altercation with the students whatsoever.

“What these people are writing is not correct, Soldiers were not deployed and couldn’t have carried out the shooting. Our men were on patrol duty at Keffi. The students, who were protesting, had blocked the road but soldiers did not have any altercation with them. There were the police and other security agencies, who were on the ground to handle the situation. There is also this information we have that the police even recovered some arms from the students who were protesting.”

The institution has now been shut down till further notice.

The army came and shot directly at syudents and killed four students. Some one shoulkd inestigate this because the army are lying to the press. They even gave students 3hrs to leave school and in the rush 9 students lost their lives on their way home. This is not what the government should keep quiet about. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Its unfair that an obvious act could be denied, what a shame to see those who are to protect lives destroys it. It is fact that the army killed four students and should not deny it. I am a witness to the event , the police and other agencies came there and saw that it was actually a peaceful protest but when the army came they were reacting like mad man brutally beating the students to the extent of following them to their houses as if it was not enough more armed soldiers came and they shot at the student, killed 4 injured many others. This is where the government need to prove to the masses that we are in a democratic dispensation not military regime by dealing with those involved. This is a slap to the human rights commission if they can’t fight for this defenceless students. May the souls of our departed students reat in peace. “Amen” Great Nigerian student!

  14. Those who are meant to protect us are the ones killing us now, where do we run to for security? Last year it was Uniport now NSUK,we can’t sch in our country again? If there was light & water dat protest wouldn’t have taken place & †ђξ protest would have ended up peacefully as usual if not 4 †ђξ army dat came & turned it 2 anoda tin. Now †ђξ students dont have any one 2 stand 4 dem, †ђξ matter would jst die like that. Our leaders dont 4get these same students voted u into ur offices & all they need now 4 their souls 2 rest in peace is “JUSTICE”

  17. Infact, it is a waste of time to even listen to what army are saying because it will never be possible for us to agree with their saying, they must be responsible for such an evil act because they are the ones with the gun. And beside those students were shooted with guns.

  18. i am saying this nigeria will never sorverv in there meat we never be in affrical on what hapun in nasarawa state university skul leit god jorj the army force and the police force if it is haw god say them shu do dat haw god we not jorj dem if not god we jorj every one of you in this arene call nigeria but the gorverment in the country ooooooooooo allah army let me ask you people dont you here what god sa in his book?????? and you all saying you are muslim and crestin yyya that what you all call your s

  19. Facts are everywhere yet the army still denies it, imagine a man of such a status ” Nigeria public relations officer” coming out to broadcast lies. How will the poor survive then. Let’s face some reality here, guns use bullets and bullets are traceable to specific guns. The doctors remove this bullet and this alone is capable enough to end this lies. My people let’s not allow pride to kill the truth because that is what is making the army to shy away from accepting their fault claiming that they are well trained. Even men of God make mistakes not to talk of trained killers. Pls! Pls!! And pls!!! Let’s give justice some freedom. ALUTA CONTINUA? VICTORIA A…..
