Lagos, Nigeria – Social Media Week Lagos (SMW Lagos) co-produced by
Dragon Africa and AFRIKA21 debuts in Lagos, Nigeria February 18 – 22,
2013.  Now in it’s 5th year; Social Media Week is a worldwide event.
Taking place in 10 cities simultaneously, it explores the social,
cultural and economic impact of social media. The conference’s mission
is to help people and organizations connect through collaboration and
the sharing of ideas and information. The format of the week-long
conference is a mixture of keynotes, panels, workshops, networking
events and mixers, with the majority of the events being free and open
to the public.

Lagos as the first African city to host SMW will look at how social
media uniquely impacts and is leveraged by Africans; as well as
explore what a “connected Africa” means for the world.  Other host
cities for the February event, powered globally by Nokia, include
Copenhagen, Hamburg, Miami, Milan, New York, Paris, Singapore, Tokyo,
and Washington DC. In 2012 more than 66,000 people attended Social
Media Week in twenty-six countries around the world.

SMW Lagos guided by the global theme of “Open and Connected,” will
focus locally on three themes programmed at three key venues: MACE,
the Music, Arts, Culture & Entertainment Hub at Terra Kulture, BIT the
Business, Innovation & Technology Hub at Porsche Centre Lagos and PEGS
the Policy, Education, Government & Society Hub at the Lagos
E-Learning Centre.  Each hub will host keynotes, panels, workshops,
case studies and presentations.  In addition, there will be daily
parties and concerts as well as cocktail mixers. The conference day
programming is then coupled with nightly events that showcase the
local culture of one of Africa’s most vibrant cities.  Key highlights
of the week include Billboard Music Day where leading industry
executives discuss the exponential growth of the music industry in
Africa and how social media directly impacts this growth, GUESS?
