In a predominantly young society that is plagued with mediocrity, unemployment and lack of focus, it is pertinent to inculcate the habits attributed to greatness into the youths beyond the basic education they get from their respective institutions. Armed with the experience of sustaining a globally respected company, the wisdom and skills that are peculiar to giants that have weathered many storms, First Bank Ltd has set out to hold the youths of Nigeria and steer them towards greatness.
The bank, last Thursday unveiled the first of its Youth Excel Series titled “Against all odds”. At a press briefing attended by 360nobs, the bank disclosed that the First Bank Youth Excel Series was created specifically for Nigerian youths in tertiary institutions across the federation. The event which aims to inspire, motivate and encourage the youth’s in spite of limitation and challenges will feature renowned motivational speaker and author of the Best Selling Book “A set back is a set up for a comeback”, Willie Jolley.
The series will kick off on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 with one of the leading institutions in Nigeria, University of Lagos being the very first destination of the event, which will then be followed by the University of Ibadan, who will play host on the 28th of February, 2013.
The purpose of the series is to create tomorrow today, according to the Head of human capital management and development, Mrs. Ayo Jaiyesimi. She said there are a huge number of young people who have lost inspiration and the bank has set out to inspire them. She stated that our young people if fired up are equally as confident as or even better than young people in other parts of the world. ‘In the last two years, First Bank has over 400 graduate employees and with the FirstBank Youth Excel Series we believe we are in-line with our focus on human capital development within and outside the bank’.
In the words of Mrs. Folake Ani-Mumuney, Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, “There’s a lot more to being a successful individual. FirstBank Ltd will therefore, be taking motivational speakers and careers experts to undergraduates of universities to instill in them a culture of excellence as well as positive life-changing values. The youths are the future of tomorrow, this series is to help them prepare for the opportunities ahead and help them maximize themselves.”
She also hinted that the students apart from being educated would also enjoy the best entertainment experience from award-winning musical artiste, Davido, who would also be performing at these events. Mrs. Ani-Mumuney explained that Davido was chosen because he recognizes the value of education and pursues his potentials at the same time, which was why he would be performing at the series.
The Series will feature exhibitions of FirstBank’s innovative products that meet the lifestyle of the youths, such as cutting-edge technology service and fast transactions. Students who attend will also be able to request for their own expression on cards which allow them to put their own image on their debit cards. The event will also feature competitions as well as a job fair.
The FirstBank Youth Excel is an opportunity for undergraduates all over the country to bond with the bank and tap into the resources, plans and products that are available for them to be the best they dream themselves to be.
