Hugh Jackman is officially confirmed for “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Less than a month after news of his potential involvement first broke, director Bryan Singer has come forth to say Jackman is reprising his role as Wolverine.
“I would officially like to welcome @RealHughJackman to the cast of #Xmen Days of Future Past. Very excited! More to come…” Singer tweeted.
Considering Jackman also has a cameo in “X-Men: First Class,” this doesn’t come as much of a shock. This time around his role seems to be beefed up, though it remains to be seen how much screen time he’ll get. Jackman isn’t the only original “X-Men” cast member to be returning, either. Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart will be reprising their roles as Magneto and Charles Xavier as well.
“X-Men: Days of Future Past” is due in theaters on July 18, 2014. The official plot synopsis says “the storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men.”
