Passion meets creativity on this collaboration by 618 (Oladimeji Omoya) and Astra-P (Adedamola Haastrup), students of Obafemi Awolowo University. At a time when “hip hop music” in Nigeria is synonymous with overused lyrics and fast beats, these young artistes bring freshness to the scene. Their exceptional knowledge of rap music and their social consciousness is applied excellently on this 7-track masterpiece.
The mixtape opens with a fast-paced introduction bound to keep the listener anticipating with excitement. The next track, ‘Dead presidents’ is a classical hip hop rendition executed professionally by the duo. The lyrical depth and concept is never lacking on each track.
They prove their worth, alongside Wole Oke, on ‘I’m on’. ‘Usual Suspects’ which features their producer, Brownnoise, shows the artistes’ desire to be successful in life. ‘Better days’ and ‘Look in my eyes’ elaborate the struggles and challenges of the Nigerian youth and the nation’s present-day situation, respectively. The mixtape closes with the track ‘Illest Rapper Alive’ , arguably a deserved title for either artiste.
