Award-winning actor Idris Elba is the next prominent personality to appear on MTN’s MTV Base Meets series. The series, which has brought forward other youth role models like Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Emmanuel Adebayor, model Alek Wek and Producer Russell Simmons, is aimed at giving 5 selected youths the chance to meet with this people and extract information that will be beneficial to youths across the continent.
Elba, who is Sierra-Leonean by birth, will be discussing a wide range of subjects including his early career, his dislike of fame, his passion for his art, the importance of education and the need to “think big” to achieve your dreams.
When talking about his acting profession, Elba said, “Performance is fuelled by passion for the piece, for the music, for the words, for the film, whatever it is. If you love what you are doing you’re going to do it well.
I mean if you have a sort of attachment to whatever it is you’re doing you’re going to do it well, so some of my best performances are because, you know, I just love the material, love the character and you just throw yourself into that.”
The programme, presented by MTV Base VJ Sizwe Dhlomo, will air on September 12, 2012 on MTV Base (DsTV channel 322).
