When one of Nigeria’s authoritative entertainment blog, The Nigerian Entertainment Today, NETng, named Orezi among one of the musicians to watch out for in 2012, I knew Orezi was set to hit the ever growing Nigerian music industry. A couple of other blogs also included Orezi among the artiste to watch out for in 2012.
The Gehn-Gehn as his fans calls him had a good outing in 2011. First it was the song ‘Emoti’, a song by D.j Debby alongside Orezi, Danagog and Igho. Emoti was the toast of every club D.j in the country; the video was the choosiest musical video on Soundcity, MTV, Trace Urban and other satellite music stations for weeks.
He later released a freestyle which he titled ‘Booty Bounce’. The song was an instant hit as it was one of the most played songs in bars, clubs and various hangouts. Late in 2011, Komije, a song by Africa’s finest, D.j Jimmy Jatt featuring Orezi, Sinzu, Igho and Muna was another hit song and Orezi once again showed that he is a hook killer.
The Afro hip-hop singer started the year 2012 on a good note with the release of D.J jimmy Jatt’s ‘komije’s video. Within the first quarter of the year, he released the video to his latest single, Booty Bounce.
The video which featured a short drama by 2011 winner of Big Brother Africa show and latest On-Air-Personality on Naija Fm, Karen Igho and popular comedian, Bovi, with appearances by Mavin’s star act, Wande coal alongside other artistes like Skuki, KSwitch, Danagog was directed by Igho.
Orezi who hails from Isoko in Delta state is currently working on his debut album. CEO of Culbeed Music (Home to Orezi), Kolade Ajayi (Ronkay), in a chat said “Orezi has been consistently working on materials and trying different ideas on what can make him the number one artiste in Nigeria. I am sure there will be a takeover soon”
Apart from working on your album, what else is Orezi working on? “I believe an artiste should be a total package. I work on the album, listens to a lot of music, work out in the gym to have the right body and live healthy, perform all over the country, also have time to do some charity work. Am working hard every day to be that role model for my fans”.
Orezi is not new to rumour. Late last year, news that the University of Lagos graduate has been arrested in Dubai for cocaine trafficking broke out. Just after dropping the video to his hit single, Booty Bounce, another rumour broke that he was leaving Culbeed music. “I felt like somebody was trying to sabotage my career. Went for a show in Dubai and woke up to the news that I was arrested for Cocaine. There is nothing more shocking than that in the whole world. I wish we knew who started that horrible rumour. I will be suing somebody right now. But I thank God that he has kept me from the negative news and given me something to thank him for” he said.
Talking about him quitting Culbeed music, he said “I taya for all these rumors o! Culbeed Music is my record label and we are just about starting the domination. I can’t quit a winning label my brother.”
The singer who recently performed at the Nigerian breweries sponsored star trek, Ibadan edition and also at the Remy Martins club tour at club Vegas feels his performance at the shows is just a tip of the iceberg. “We came hard on the stage and getting all the ovations. We worked hard to prepare for the performance because I believe anything worth doing at all is worth doing well. Entertainment is what people should expect from me anytime I get on stage. The experience is great and we thank God for the opportunities”.
Already planning a nationwide campus tour for his yet-to-be titled album, he says he still want to keep his fans in suspense as a surprise awaits them when his album finally drops. “We are planning a nationwide campus tour and we are almost at the conclusive end of negotiations. For my album, I am not ready to let out because it is meant to be a surprise. But know this! That GehnGehn Guy is coming out with the album this very year and it is going to be the hottest album ever. I promise you that and you (referring to the writer) will let you know as soon as this is concluded”.
