NAIJA DON WIN by BIG SMILe is now the Official Song of Team Nigeria to the London2012 Olympics.cThe Nigeria Olympic Committee will give a press conference to that effect this morning, 30th of July, 2012. The story follows below:
About six months ago, several songs were submitted to the Nigeria Olympics Committee by musicians, ranging from old timers to brand new kids on the block, for entry into the Olympics Theme Song Contests. It took over six months of rigorous sieving, sifting, analyzing and deleting, before the final 3 songs were short listed for radio vote. After two weeks of intense voting based on the massive air play given the three songs on all FRCN radio stations nationwide, ‘Naija Don Win’ by BIG SMILe emerged the winner on the 26th of July, 2012, a day before the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. The Chairman marketing Committee of the NOC has returned from London to give a press conference on it today, the 30th of July, and to push it into all NOC network at home and in London.
NAIJA DON WIN is a pop/reggae groove that quickly brings to mind global hits like Waiving Flag by K’naan, America’s Most Wanted by Akon. The lyrics can simply be described as beautiful, goose-pimples inducing. The vocals are a clever weave of Majek Fashek and Phil Collins’ kind of voices – voices that immortalize songs. Naija Don Win profusely celebrates Nigeria as if it were heaven. It is a classic that will live forver.
BIG SMILe, a reformation of the defunct band, CRUDEOIL, is a trio of Femi Afolabi-Brown (vocals), Babz Afolabi-Brown (writing and sound engineering), and Clean (vocals), who insists on remaining ‘classified’. Femi is a practicing lawyer, while Babz is a practicing accountant. Clean is ‘classified’.[audio:https://www.360nobs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Naija-Don-Win-song1.mp3]
