360Sports: 31 Athletes to Represent Nigeria at The London Olympics 2012

THE Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has announced a 31 strong team list for the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic Games scheduled to begin on the 27th July to 12th August, 2012. The announcement comes at conclusion of a successful Africa Athletics Championship in Port Novo, Cotonou which followed the Nigerian trials in Calabar.

The announcement was made by the AFN president Chief Solomon Ogba who expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in Cotonou and said the team is ready for the games in London.

Nigeria won 10 gold, six silver and five bronze medals at the Africa Athletics Championship

The selected athletes are:

Women’s 100m: Blessing Okagbare, Gloria Asumnu, Lawreta Ozoh

Women’s 200m: Gloria Asumnu, Lawreta Ozoh and Christy Udoh

Women’s 400m (women) Regina George and Omolara Omotosho

Women’s 400m Hurdles: Ajoke Odumosun

Women’s High Jump: Doreen Amata

Women’s Long Jump: Blessing Okagbare

Women’s Shot put: Vivian Chukwu Emeka, Heptathlon Uhunoma, Naomi Osaazuwa

Women’s Marathon: Esther Obiekwe

Women’s 100m Hurdles: Seun Adigun

Women’s 4x100m: Blessing Okagbare, Gloria Asumnu, Lawretta Ozoh, Oluwadamola Osayomi, Wisdom Isoken and Christy Udoh

Women’s 4x4oom: Regina George, Omolara Omotosho, Bukola Abogunloko, Endurance Abinuwa, Idara Otu and Margaret Etim

Men’s 100m: Obinna Joseph Metu, Ogho Oghene Egwero, Peter Emelieze

Men’s 110m Hurdles: Selim Nurudeen

Men’s 400m hurdles: Ameachi Morton

Men’s Long Jump: Stanley Gbageke

Men’s Triple Jump: Tosin Oke

Men’s 4x400m: Saul Weogopwa, Abiola Onokoya, Isah Salihu, Tobi Ogunmola, Segun Ogunkole and Godday James, Ogba

Three athletes might yet be added to the list if they make the qualifying standard by 6 July. They are Noah Akwu and Stanley Azie in the men’s 200m and Jessica Ohanaja in the women’s 100m hurdles
