Sunday, 27th MayWe all ARE children right? So Children’s Day IS for all of us right? Please agree with me, so I can justify making my mum take me out for ice cream. Thank you. Children’s Day was a busy day but the “I am having so much fun” kind of busy! After the ice-cream, first up on my list was a stopover at LTV for Party and Play’s event. Children, Candy Floss, Music – FUUUUN!
I was also there to introduce my cousin to Top Radio’s DJ GQ. My cousin wants to learn how to be a DJ; so I thought who better to train him?! I will let you know how it progresses. Who knows, my cousin might be at your next event! From Ikeja to V.I; specifically, the Galleria where BP Visions Company was organising a hang out with kids from Orphanages. We saw ‘’The Avengers’’ (although I missed quite a bit of it) and then played games and gisted. Made some new friends and s.h.a.r.ed some ideas! Lala, Wale Ojo and Wazobia’s Lolo were also there. And then, a quick change of clothes and it was off to Lagos Island for Darey’s shoot. When Darey shoots a video, he shoots a video!
The people who turned out to support ( I spotted everyone from Timi Dakolo to Waje, Ayo Animashaun, Ali Baba, Mo Easy, Omawumi, ZDon Paporella, Kaffy, Zaina, Skales and DJ Jimmy Jatt), the team that worked on it, and the whole set up was just incredible. And then there was Flavour. Hot! Monday After a crazy Sunday, I had to keep Monday light and simple. So it was mostly radio and then blogging. TuesdayTuesday was a public holiday but if you work on radio, then that’s just another day for you. The cool thing though is that the roads tend to be free and I can feel your joy so it’s almost like a holiday for me too. It was an odd day though as Mr President renamed my school to M.A.U.
At first, I hated the idea because I like the name, ‘UNILAG’. And then it bothered me that schools and things and places can get renamed just like that, without affected parties even getting a whiff of it. It seemed to me like a little more than just about the name, but the sleight of hand (what else do you remember about the speech) and how jaded we have become. I think the military did a good job on us though. Almost everybody says, “They changed it, accept it, nothing can be done”. After dealing with that, I went to see a movie with a friend. We saw ‘Men in Black’ at the cinema mainly because I was curious to see what movie knocked ‘Avengers’ off the top spot at the Box Office. It was better than ‘’Battlefield’’ but I’d still place it below ‘Avengers’. I do have to say though; Will Smith is some kind of genius. Do you know how many of his movies get to the top spot and sometimes stay for weeks? Should you see it? Yes indeedy! It was funny and interesting. And the acting was good! (This is not a Battlefield sub) Wednesday One Mic is on the 24thof June and we started announcing the performers! (#ShamelessPlug alert) We gave out clues and gave prizes to people who guessed correctly! We still have some performers to announce so please follow @onemicnaija for an opportunity to win, and more information about #OneMicJune. Here are some pictures from #OneMicApril
Thursday Thuuuuuursday! Wait, have I mentioned how fascinated I am by the fact that this day was named after Thor? And in case you have never heard this, I am in love with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. It is World Sickle Cell Day on the 19th of June so Toyin of S.A.A.M.I, Buky of Progeny Foundation and I (of These Genes) had a quick meeting to talk about activities planned for that week. One of the first events we have lined up is ‘Bake for Cells’ on the 16th. There will also be ‘Expressions’, an evening of Poetry, Music and Readings. Please follow @SAMIupdate @progeny_ and @thesegenes for more information! I had been looking forward to Thursday for so long because it was the evening of #RockNite. And did we rock? O yes indeed! Threadstone! Waje! M.I! Christine! Ese Peters! Honey! Aramide! Ruby! Femi Leye! Clay!
It was a crazy night and I can’t wait for the next one! Here is a clip of Aramide performing ‘it’s over’
And Threadstone with ‘Just the way you are’
Friday I think I have to finally admit that I am a foodie. Nothing excites me more than discovering new places and things to eat or drink. On Friday, I discovered one such place… still excited! The traffic on Friday was legendary. I had to cancel a trip. I don’t know how soon those flying cars will get here but can someone please sign me up for one? Friday was also Steve Babaeko’s birthday! Happy Birthday Steve, You rock! Saturday I spent my Saturday at City of David for ‘’God’s Kids Got Talent’’ alongside Cobhams, Wale Adenuga, Nkem Ohia and more.
