The Nollywood Movies Awards is fast approaching and has been tipped to be one of the most important awards ceremony of 2012.
The NMAs 2012 show countdown will be kicking off (in just a little over 24hrs) with an exclusive NOMINEES’ PARTY at the ORIENTAL HOTEL, Lekki tomorrow(5th of May) complete with RED CARPET(5pm). Since the NOMINEES’ LIST has been revealed we have been wondering what each of the nominated stars would be wearing to celebrate their nominations with their peers from 5pm tomorrow.
I will be killing your suspense with my style prediction for our most stylish female nominees, stating what they would most likely wear to the nominees party and why, using some of the best pieces from the recent Arise Magazine Fashion Week 2012. The oufits have been chosen based on the type of event; The MAIN EVENT in JUNE, expect all guns blazing and we all know Nollywood no dey carry last. Feel free to share your thoughts with me!
Best Actress Nominee, Omoni Oboli, Anchor Baby
This is one lady with great height and good body shape but hardly shows us her sexy side with her style choices. A dress like this Phunk Afrique lace dress would show off her gentle curves in a subtly sexy way and still keep things extremely sophisticated.
Best Actress Nominee Genevieve Nnaji, Tango With Me
Ms Genevieve is very adventurous with her style choices but also notorious for her love affair with the colour black and short dresses. It would be nice to switch things up a bit with this outfit from Meena – a high waisted cigarette pants with some raciness peeking through in the top (less skin can revealed of course with a camisole). She has the body and style stamina to pull off this look conveniently with a hint of bright hue somewhere to liven things up the Genevieve way. But regardless whatever garment she picks, we predict a hint of black somewhere.
Best Actress Nominee, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Private Storm
Screen actress-Omotola may be known to accentuate her curves at every given opportunity, however recently she has been seen to favour more fashion forward choices such as; cigarette pants and tuxedos. We predict the same look, with an edgy twist! And the outfit which would tick all the necessary style boxes as well as accentuate OmoT’s fab-body is this one button gold Tux from Clan.
Best Actress Nominee in a supporting role, Stella Damasus, Bent Arrows
Known for favouring different silhouettes and shapes, Stella’s style is as unpredictable as the weather. I predict that she will opt for a fun and quirky yet incredibly sophisticated dress. This Ankara mix Christie Brown dress is a hands down winner for Stella.
Best Actress Nominee, Uche Jumbo, Damage
Having recently dropped a lot of pounds, Uche Jumbo has been spotted rocking the 40s pencil dress trend and the peplum trend. Not one to shy away from embracing her bossom, I will most likely opt for this Royal Blue figure hugging peplum from Praje or something within its scope.
Best Actress Nominee in a supporting role, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Kiss & Tell
Nse wowed us a few weeks ago by donning a floor length velvet dress from House of Nwocha, I reckon she will wear a dress with a similar cut but with a slit for extra drama and this red dress with alternating hems from Bridget Awosika packs in all the punches with her svelte figure.
Best Actress Nominee, Mercy Johnson, Weeping Soul
Our very own Black Jessica Rabbit but with more full frontal power. Mercy is the typical if you’ve got it, then flaunt it type of girl – a very daring woman with great height. It would be amazing to see her in something other than figure hugging but with equal amount of sexiness the actress favours. This Grecian style jumpsuit from Kinabuti would look great on her.
Best Actress Nominee in a non-English movie, Funke Akindele, The Return Of Jenifa & Emi Abata
The only actress on the NMAs 2012 list nominated twice in the same category – she remains in competition with her wise-cracking alter ego, Jenifa. This dramatic dress from Ejiro Amos-Tafiri would appeal well to both Funke and Jenifa, both their legs can handle hemline.
Best Actress Nominee, Mercy Aigbe, Oladunjoye
It’s always fun to wear a full mini skirt like Mercy, as long as you balance out the look by covering your top half. This leaves something to the imagination of others. This outfit from Christie Brown would be a break from the norm whilst accentuating her waist.
Nollywood Rising Star Award Nominee, Halima Abubakar, Entrapped
Ever the girlie girl! From Halima’s past style choices, it is clear the no bars hold star favours full skirts and feminine cuts(not necessaririly the best for curvy ladies who are vertically challenged) and DRAMA. To keep the drama going, we suggest a look that is more structured to show off her best full frontal assets but in a more subtle way. This jacket from Ejiro Amos Tafiri does just that and rather than the skirt, a pair of cigarette pants and her favourite sky scrapping heels would do just fine to create the illusion of longer legs. Halima has the right energy to make this outfit into a red carpet hit.
Nollywood Rising Star Award Nominee, Helen Paul, The Return Of Jenifa
Helen is a modern day Cinderella all the way! She favours midi full skirts and big hair to complete her look. I predict her favouring the same silhouette and this dress from Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi’s collection would seal the deal.
The Co-Host for NMAs 2012 (2nd of June), Kate Henshaw
Ms Kate has an aaaaamazing body as proven to us in a recent magazine spread for Style Mania Magazine. It would be great to see her in a more risqué outfit but still keeping the sophistication intact – this Maki Oh outfit is a possible winner or anything that isn’t so regular.
