Leading Tanzanian movie star – Steven Kanumba, who passed away in Dar es Salaam in the early hours of Saturday, April 7, 2012 was buried last week at the Kinondoni Cemetery.
Kanumba who died at the age of 28 left many people in shock. Movie actors, friends, entertainers, fans and family of the late actor showed up in thousands to pay their last respects to Steven Charles Kanumba who had also done a few movies in Nollywood.
Many were seen fainting at the funeral service, with medical staff coming to the rescue and some had to be taken to the hospital.
His girlfriend, who is also an actor, is allegedly being held by the Tanzanian Police over the actor’s death.
The President of the United Republic of Tanzania Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete expressed his profound shock and intense grief following the sudden death of the country’s leading actor.
During a condolence visit at the actors house at Sinza Vatican in Dar es Salaam, President Kikwete had this to say about the actor
“I have come to join you in mourning Steven Kanumba whom we have known for each other for long spell during his movie star career. I invited him in a luncheon in Dodoma together with some of his friends who have been cooperating in their movie starring career. We are bound to miss Kanumba who has left the world at a very young age, but this is the will of God. Please try to come to terms at this hard time”.
